SEVEN people believed to be from the same family were shot dead after opening their presents in what officials described as a Christmas Day murder-suicide.
Four women and three men, aged 18 to 60, were found in the flat - which was decorated with a Christmas tree.
Grapevine Police Sergeant Robert Eberling said: "It appears they had just celebrated Christmas. They had opened their gifts."
Two handguns were discovered at the apartment in Grapevine, Texas, near Dallas, and there were no signs of forced entry.
Grapevine police Lieutenant Todd Dearing said: "We believe the shooter is one of those dead in the apartment."
Grapevine Police Sergeant Robert Eberling said: "It's a great tragedy, something our department has not seen before."
"You read about these types of reports, but they always seem to happen somewhere else."
Dearing said that authorities believe it was a family Christmas gathering - their names were not immediately released.
