GRUESOME: Abuja Lady Slaughtered By Fiance

•Yakubu arrested over death of Victoria and Victoria Akubo before her death.
The Criminal Investigation Department, CID of Nassarawa State Police Command, Lafia is questioning Johnson Yakubu, a taxi driver who plies his trade in Abuja on the murder of his fiancee.
The body of the deceased, 29-year-old Victoria Akubo, was discovered by the son to the couple’s landlord on Friday afternoon.
Explaining the circumstances in which the body was discovered, sources in the deceased residence at Catholic Church Road, One Man Village, a suburb of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, told P.M.NEWS that the taxi driver who had left home earlier in the day called the landlord’s son to help check on his fiancee since he has been trying unsuccessfully to get her on phone.
The landlord’s son who also spoke to P.M.NEWS said he subsequently went to knock the door of the couple’s flat, but he did not get any response.
The landlord’s son said he subsequently called Johnson back to inform him that there was nobody at their home.
But the taxi driver was said to have insisted that his wife is inside the house.
He asked the landlord’s son to check inside the house through the other door that leads into the couple’s flat at the back.
Following Johnson’s instructions, the landlord’s son told P.M.NEWS that he went to peep in through the window and saw the body of Victoria lying on the bed with her face covered with a pillow.
He said he entered the flat and discovered that the Victoria was dead with two marks indicating that she was stabbed in two places. The landlord’s son said he consequently reported to the police. P.M.NEWS confirmed that the incident was reported at the local police station before the case was transferred to Lafia on Monday this week. It was gathered that Johnson, in his statement, tried to deny responsibility for the murder.

Come the 17th of November 2011, Two Brides And A Baby, a new movie starring Mercy Johnson as one of lead acts premieres.
In anticipation of the movie which has already garnered  12 nominations at the Best of Nollywood Awards (BON), the grapevine has been agog over the similarity in the story line and the incidents leading to the recent wedding of sultry actress Mercy Johnson.
Mercy Johnson
Those in the know have sworn that it is the true life story of Mercy Johnson who recently wedded Prince Odianosen Okojie amidst controversies.
The uncanny  resemblance between the female lead Keche played by Keira Hewatch and Mercy Johnson coupled with the sequence of the unfolding drama they claimed,  makes it too much of a coincidence.
Contacted, the movie producer, Blessing Effiom Egbe, she declined commenting on the issue, saying movie lovers would have to wait to see the movie to confirm their curiosity.
Two Brides And A Baby is a romantic comedy about Keche and Bankole whose plan to walk down the aisle was jeopardized by the emergence of another woman.

11 Supercars of Africa’s Dictator, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo Seized By French Police

Today 11 Supercars that belonged to Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, president of Equatorial Guinea, have been seized in Paris by the French National Police. Among the cars seized by the French police were two Bugatti Veyrons, a Maserati MC12, a Porsche Carrera GT, a Ferrari Enzo and a Ferrari 599 GTO. The supercars were seized at Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo’s Parisian residence at 42 Avenue Foch, just a stones throw away from the Arc de Triomphe., www.Gtspirit.com has reported.

The reason why the 11 cars including two Bugattis, Ferraris and Bentleys with a total value of over 5 million dollars(N800 million) were seized by the French National Police are unclear but it could have something to do with wide spread investigations into the Equatorial Guinean president and in particular the use of state funds to buy private property in France.

Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo is currently the longest ruling leader in Africa and also Chairman of the African Union. In November 2010, the Supreme Court of France accepted the appointment of an investigating judge and the opening of a judicial inquiry into claims that the President has used state funds to purchase private property in France. Equatorial Guinea is rich in oil but despite its rising revenues from oil, poverty in the country is still widespread and credible allegations of high-level corruption, including by Obiang and his eldest son, are the subject of judiciary investigations around the world. His son is the owner of one of the most expensive houses in Malibu, California at 3620 Sweetwater Road.

Messi, Adidas Develop Soccer Boot With Brain

•Messi taking a look at the ‘brain boot’ . PHOTOS: Daily Mail.
Lionel Messi is the face behind football’s latest revolutionary masterpiece: the boot with a brain.
Sportsmail can reveal that the Barcelona superstar has spent months developing the world’s first intelligent football boot with manufacturers adidas, which could now take the game by storm.
The boots record player-specific data with an innovative miCoach Speed Cell chip placed in the cavity of the outsole, which captures 360 degree movements and measures key performance metrics such as speed and distance.
Leading Premier League players, including Luis Suarez, David Silva, Samir Nasri , Ashley Young, Emmanuel Adebayor, Stewart Downing and Gareth Bale, have put the smart boot to the test during training sessions in recent weeks before wearing them competitively for the first time next month.
Sportsmail travelled to Germany two weeks ago to sample the boot at the home of Bundesliga club FC Nuremburg.
Top-flight club performance directors, who often rely on Pro Zone analysis to track player movement using video systems, will be able to download digital information within a matter of moments.
The boots – which store data including: speed, average speed, maximum speed, number of sprints, distance, distance at high intensity levels and active time for up to seven hours after a match or training – transmit on-pitch information to tablets, PCs and Macs using a wireless link.
Most clubs operate Pro Zone to analyse and track the movements of their players during games, with eight cameras deployed around four corners of the stadium to capture and provide information every 10th of a second.

South Africa Replace Libya As 2013 Nations Cup Hosts

South Africa will be hoping to make use of the stadiums built specially for the 2010 World Cup, like Greenpoint in Cape Town
South Africa will host the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in place of Libya, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) has announced.
According to the BBC, Libya gave up the right to host the event because of the continuing upheaval in the country.
They will instead organise the 2017 tournament, which had been due to take place in South Africa.
The swap is confirmation of a deal between the two countries which was revealed some weeks ago.
At the time Caf said that the announcement was premature, with Nigeria and Algeria also expressing an interest in stepping in.
Nigeria had been named as standby hosts when Caf made their original announcements about the venues for the tournaments from 2010 – 2014.
But the decision to go with South Africa was ratified at Caf’s Executive Committee meeting which is taking place in Cairo.
South Africa will also replace Libya as hosts of the 2014 African Nations Championship, the tournament for locally-based players.
Earlier this year they organised the African U20 championship, which was also given-up by Libya.
Caf also announced the hosts of a number of other major events.
Namibia will organise the 2014 Africa Women’s Championship and Niger will take on the 2015 U17 tournament.
Senegal will host the 2015 U20 finals while Madagascar will stage the U17 championship in 2017.

How I was raped, by lady, 26

Victim

When Yetunde Olayemi left her parents’ house in Sango Ota, Ogun State, three years ago, to live with another woman in Lagos, it was like a dream come true.

Her joy stems from the fact that her madam promised to assist her to complete her secondary education and make her acquire some skills in fashion designing.

Her madam (names withheld) did not disappoint at all. She treated her like her own daughter and trained her in secondary school as well as assisted her to secure a factory job.
But Yetunde’s joy was cut short when a boyfriend of her madam’s niece allegedly raped her.

Since the incident, she had been suffering from psychological trauma as the mother of the alleged rapist has continued to threaten to deal with her if she did not stop the move to reveal what transpired between her and the suspect.

The 26-year-old lady, who spoke to Daily Sun recently, was devastated and those who knew her before the sexual assault said she was now shadow of her old self. Narrating her ordeal at the Child Dignity Foundation, Opebi, Lagos, where she is being rehabilitated, she disclosed that she was alone in the apartment on the fateful day she was raped. According to her, she was in their apartment at Awodiora Estate, Apapa, when the suspect came knocking on the door.

Chris Brown Sucks Woman's Knee Onstage

Chris Brown caresses a woman's leg and even sucks on her knee ever so slightly

The Huffington Post
Everyone has his or her opinion about Chris Brown. We get it.
But a video from a concert in Detroit is giving new meaning to the phrase, "Chris Brown sucks." (Get your mind out of the gutter.)

The clip shows one lucky -- or, unlucky, depending on your view -- fan receiving some special attention from the sweaty, shirtless, microphone-wielding star. It appears as if Brown caresses the woman's leg and even sucks on her knee ever so slightly.

It certainly isn't the first time (nor the last time) a singer pulls a fan onstage for some not-so-one-on-one action.
Remember the infamous "Today Show" performance when Enrique Iglesias kissed a fan?
Hey, it's all about keeping the fans happy, right?

Farmer Orders Topless Rihanna off his Farm

ent2992011-pix-2.jpg-ent2992011-pix-2.jpg
Democratic Unionist Party Alderman Alan Graham said he was fetching his tractor when he saw her cavorting in the field and thought it was unacceptable

Daily Mail
For many men, having a world-famous pop beauty undress on their doorstep would be a cause for celebration.

But not for farmer Alan Graham, 61, as Rihanna found out when she posed topless on his land for a racy video shoot.

The 23-year-old singer was forced to beat a hasty retreat from Mr. Graham’s muddy field in Northern Ireland after he interrupted the filming and told her to cover up.

Rihanna had been filming the video for her latest single, We Found Love, with Scottish DJ Calvin Harris – which at one point saw the singer go topless – when Mr. Graham spotted her stripping down to a bikini made up of red handkerchiefs.

The furious farmer, who asked for filming to be halted, defended his actions yesterday, saying Rihanna’s behaviour was ‘inappropriate’.

Mr. Graham had agreed for one of his fields in Bangor, County Down, to be used for recording but was not aware what the production team had in mind for the star.

Woman Delivers Baby Girl On The Road

A woman, with a nine-month old pregnancy, who was rushing to the hospital on foot in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, to give birth, was not fast enough to get to the health centre. Instead, she stumbled in front of a shop and gave birth to a baby girl.
The near-tragic incident, which turned joyful, occurred in Agege area of the state at about 4.30 pm yesterday, eyewitnesses said.
P.M.NEWS learnt that the 26-year old woman, Mrs. Ruth Kola, whose husband is a welder, was in their residence alone when she went into labour.
She told our correspondent that when she began to feel contractions of her abdomen, she came out of their residence and tried to board a taxi to the hospital, but none agreed to carry her.
She then resorted to trekking and in front of Shop 53 at Balogun Street, Pen-Cinema, Agege, she stumbled and called for assistance from nearby traders.
The owner of the shop, Mr. Gerald Anyadiora, narrated that he was surprised when he saw a woman groaning in pains in front of his shop.
Without a doctor, a nurse or any trained health personnel, the traders formed a shield around her to protect her from passersby who had gathered to witness the spectacular delivery.
After the delivery, some of the eyewitness went to the maternity nearby to seek their assistance but none of the nurses there agreed to follow them to the scene, eyewitnesses said.
Those who witnessed the incident and passersby were astonished and quickly bought items like pampers, detergent, baby clothing, shawls, and even provided the bus that conveyed the woman to her residence at 7, Omitola Street, Pen-Cinema, Agege, Lagos.
An eyewitness said: “the baby was already coming out when we saw her. We had to gather around her and ensure she delivered the baby safely. The labour took just between five to 10 minutes. Her placenta was removed by the women. The whole thing that happened was an act of God”
Ruth, the mother of the baby girl is a native of Ondo State, Southwest Nigeria. She told our correspondent: “There was nobody to help me and I had to wait in the middle of the road before concerned persons gathered around me to ensure I deliver the baby safely.”
Kola, Ruth’s husband, said that he was frightened when he learnt that his wife had delivered in front of a shop and not in a health centre.
He disclosed that he had no money at home and had not even bought the items needed for the baby.
He said was not prepared for the delivery.

Accused Offers Marriage To Rape Victim

A 23-year old man, Samuel Godwin Effiong, who is facing a rape charge at Oshodi magistrate’s court, has made a shocking proposal to the 27-year old rape victim (name withheld) at the court by offering to marry her to compensate her.
Effiong made the offer in the open court to the victim by proposing to marry her before the presiding magistrate, Mrs. Osho Adebiyi.
Effiong told the court, in the presence of the victim, that he was ready to marry the victim and take care of the baby if she was pregnant as a result of the rape.
He said the proposal will facilitate the final settlement of the rape charge against him.
Effiong was charged to court for allegedly raping the 27-year old woman under false pretence.
He was alleged to have worn his brother’s military uniform and arrested the victim at Ikeja area.
Instead of taking her to the barracks as he claimed while arresting her, he took her on a motorcycle to a hidden place at Mafoluku Oshodi where he raped her.
He was however unlucky when someone who suspected their movement raised an alarm that attracted other neighbours and the police.
Effiong was eventually arrested and charged to court.
He pleaded not guilty.
The court granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
When the matter came up, he made the offer so that he would regain his freedom.
Lawyers who spoke to P.M.NEWS this morning said despite offering to marry the victim, the accused will have to face trial to enable the law take its course.
The former Secretary-General of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Lagos branch, Mr. Ike Ukor, said “No, the law will still have to take its course, unless the woman agrees to marry and drop the charge.”
In his reaction, Festus Keyamo, legal practitioner, said: “the accused marriage proposal does not legalise the crime, though it all depends on the woman because once the woman drops the charge and says ‘I am no longer pursuing the case’ that will be the end of the case, as the prosecution needs the evidence of the woman to convict the man.”

Insult From Britain: Nigerian Men Lazy —British Baroness

Controversial peer Baroness Flather caused outrage yesterday with a claim that Nigerian men marry four wives because they are lazy, reports the Daily Mail.

•Baroness Flather
Speaking on a radio phone-in debate on polygamy, she said: ‘Most of the men in Nigeria don’t do anything, their wives do all the work, that’s why they have so many.’
Lady Flather spoke out after a Nigerian caller told how his father had four wives, they all lived together in the same house without arguments and their 11 children were all well educated.
The crossbencher, Britain’s first female Asian peer, recently made controversial claims that some Asian families in Britain have lots of children in order to claim extra welfare payments.
Yesterday’s comments were made as she spoke as a guest on the BBC Radio 5 Breakfast show, presented by Nicky Campbell.
Campbell was joined in the studio by Khola Hasan, of the Islamic Sharia Council, which says polygamy is on the rise among British Muslims.
Following the peer’s comment, embarrassed laughter could be heard before Mrs. Hasan said: ‘That’s a bit unfair’.
Campbell then interjected: ‘If I’d said what you’ve just said I’d be in the papers tomorrow for racism, wouldn’t I?’
But the baroness went on: ‘They have four wives – one to do the farming, one to look after the children, one to look after the man and one to do the housework. It is just a fact. Why should I lie?’
Two British Nigerians later called the show and condemned the comments, pointing out that polygamy is a sign of affluence rather than idleness. Last night Radio 5 said the peer’s views were ‘entirely her own’.

Trial Begins Of Michael Jackson's Doctor

Michael Jackson's doctor goes on trial today charged with killing the 'King of Pop' with an overdose of hospital anaesthetic.
Dr Conrad Murray has denied involuntary manslaughter and his televised five-week trial in Los Angeles is expected to attract worldwide attention.
Jackson's death in June 2009 came as he prepared for a sold-out 50-date comeback tour of the UK. He had hired Dr Murray weeks before to help him through the gruelling schedule.
A post-mortem examination revealed the star died from an overdose of the drug Propofol, normally only used in hospital procedures, which Jackson begun to use to help him sleep.
Dr Murray admits giving Jackson a small dose but not enough to be fatal. Prosecutors say he was grossly negligent in administering the hospital drug in a private home.
Defence lawyers will try to prove that Jackson caused his own death by drinking a dose when Murray was out of the room.
Prosecutors only have to prove that Dr Murray was negligent in not monitoring Jackson properly to support the charge. The star's history of drug use weighs in Dr Murray's favour.
The seven-man, five-woman jury was selected from a pool of 150, all subjected to a 32-page questionnaire designed to find those least likely to be swayed by media coverage and Jackson's celebrity.
They were asked questions on their views of celebrity magazines, their relationship with their own doctor and whether they were fans of Jackson. Six of the 12 said they were.
Defence attorney Lou Shapiro, who is not involved in the Murray case, told Sky News: "Everyone knows who Michael Jackson is.

Pastor Ighodalo: I’ll Buy My Own Coffin, Wants Funeral Money Given To Poor

Pastor Olajide Ituah Ighodalo of Trinity House Church, whose second marriage to former Miss Lux, Ibidunni Ajayi, led to his expulsion from the Redeemed Christian Church of God in 2009, has warned his congregation not to waste money on him when he dies, saying that he will buy his own coffin.
Pastor Ighodalo
Ighodalo, who was preaching in Victoria Island, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, on the theme ‘the laws of life’, said that money spent on the dead is a waste, adding that it must be spent on the needy.
“When I die,” Ighodalo said, “the money you want to spend for my burial, use it to benefit the people who have no benefit in life. The dead is dead, and dead for good. Let him face Jesus.
“Keep my funeral simple, make it easy. Use the money you want to lavish on me to pay school fees for children who need it.
“In fact, I will even buy my own coffin. Don’t buy Coca Cola for anybody, don’t. I am serious about it. Let’s do things in an efficient way. What you want to spend for me, don’t wait until I die, give me the money now and let me enjoy now.
The 50-year old pastor and accountant warned his church members not to borrow money on his behalf once he is gone.

3 girls kidnapped in Church

OWERRI – Palpable confusion and apprehension reigned in Saint Mulumba’s Catholic Parish, Owerri, following the kidnapping of three girls that attended the 7am mass in the church yesterday.
The abducted children are; six-month old Munachi Ikwuazu, her two-and-a- half year old elder sister, Ugonma Ikwuazu, as well as two-and-a- half year old Uchechi Ukwuoma.
Concerted efforts made by Vanguard to talk with the parents of the three children proved abortive as they were completely short of words on what to say about the incident.
While the father of Munachi and Ugonma, Mr. Remigius Ikwuazu only managed to say that they are from Umuhu, Enyiogugu, Aboh Mbaise local government area of Imo State,Uchechi’s father, Mr. Nnaemeka Ukwuoma said he is from Umuoma, Nekede, Owerri West local council area of the state.
Confirming the ugly development, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Justin Okoro, wondered why anybody would want to perpetrate such a dastardly act on innocent lads that came to worship their God.
“These abducted innocent lads were on their way home after the children’s mass when the ugly incident took place. I am completely devastated but the situation is obviously worse for the children’s parents”, Rev. Fr. Okoro said.
Answering a question, Okoro confirmed that he had reported the matter to his Local Ordinary, Archbishop Anthony J. V. Obinna, and the security agencies.
Narrating the story of how her sisters were abducted, 10-year old Chinaza Ikwuazu said “a lady confused us, took us in a Keke NAPEP to the Old Market, made a few calls and told the receiver to hurry to where we were, adding that she had some children with her”.
She pleaded with the people holding her sisters to please allow them to re-unite with the family, adding that “God will bless them if they do this for us”.

The woman who defied sexual abuse stigma

Princess Olufemi-Kayode Princess Olufemi-Kayode

Her name is Princess Olufemi-Kayode. She is a columnist, a journalist and communication development expert. She is one of the few Nigerian women who have not allowed stigma keep them mourning after sexual abuse. As a teenager, she was sexually abused. Despite her open admission of being a victim of rape, she is happily married, with children.
Olufemi-Kayode’s experience made her realise the impact of the consequences of rape on victims. This led to her raising public awareness and seeking institutional support to meet the needs of abused children.
She founded Media Concern Initiative - for Women and Children aka MediaCon, a non-governmental organisation in 2003, to carry out sensitisation/education of the public on preventing Child Sexual Abuse.
In 2007, her efforts in this regard were recognised and she was awarded the prestigious Ashoka Fellowship by Ashoka for Public Innovators, an international organisation based in the United States. Her efforts also led to her becoming a recipient of the University of Western Cape, South Africa 2010 Honorary Doctorate. Award in Public Health.
Olufemi-Kayode believes that one other factor, which has contributed to rape cases going unpunished  is the refusal of the families of victims to see the cases through. She said even when no financial cost is involved in trying rape cases, families discourage litigations because of   the wrong impression that the girl child would not be able to marry when she becomes older if her status is public knowledge. “Family name and honour supersede the needs of the child victim,” she said.

Irregular libido traced to psychological, psychiatric trauma

Abuja -  Irregular libido by both men and women has been traced to either psychological or psychiatric trauma that a person is going through.
Dr Abiodun Awolusi, Principal Medical Officer, National Hospital Abuja, made the disclosure in an interview in Abuja on Friday.
The Wikipedia Online dictionary describes libido as a person’s sex drive or desire for sexual activity. The desire for sex is an aspect of a person’s sexuality, but varies enormously from one person to another and it also varies depending on circumstances at a particular time.
A person who has extremely frequent or a suddenly increased sex drive may be experiencing hypersexuality. Sex drive has usually biological, psychological and social components.
Awolusi listed some psychological trauma that could be experienced by the sufferer to include depression, stress, pain, rape among others.
He noted that anyone who had experienced some of the traumas could suffer low libido but most people who had been victims of rape, especially at an early age could suffer high libido.
He listed psychiatric cases that had to do with libido as polar disorder, mental disorder, cognitive and perceptual abnormalities, which can affect sexual performance.
“A woman that is abused at childhood can end up having high libido, because she may not want to settle down for marriage with any man, and eventually going about having sex with different men.
“And there are other medical conditions that cause high libido such as hyper-adrenalins which is the adrenal gland that is secreting too much of hormone and when pancreas secret too much of hormone it can lead to high libido in women, “ he said.
Awolusi explained that when a woman was stressed up, the urge to have sex would be reduce, adding that high libido could be seen among women with high progesterone.

Sodomy: Pastor Caught With Male Church Member Inside Hotel Room

The police at Ijesha Police Division in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have arrested a suspected homosexual pastor, Prince Egimonele, in a hotel as he attempted to have sex with his male church member.
•Prince Egimonele
The victim, Chidiebere Mozie, a drummer in the pastor’s church, reportedly played along and informed the police of the appointment with the pastor before they went inside the hotel room to have sex. The police laid ambush for the pastor
A police source informed P.M.NEWS that the pastor, Egimonele, the General Overseer of Jesus Intervention Ministry at Ijesha Community Hall, a native of Abia State, Southeast Nigeria, was arrested inside the hotel along Ijesha Road, where he had gone to have fun with Chidiebere Mozie, 23, whom he allegedly lured with N100,000.
However, luck ran out on the pastor when policemen arrested him in the hotel.
Items recovered from the randy clergyman inside the hotel room include a pack of viagra, a drug that boosts male libido, Rough Rider condoms, cream and fruit juice.
After police investigation, the pastor and an accomplice Lawrence were arraigned before a Cele Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on a four-count charge of having sex with a male partner and an attempt to have unlawful carnal knowledge and indecent practice with a male person in a hotel.

Behold, hotel for the dead!

Wednesday, 21 September 2011
Staff of the hotel preparing a ‘room’ for a lodger.
The popular belief is that ‘enjoyment is finished after one is dead. This belief seems to be antiquated, going by the ingenuity of a businessman in Japan who believes that the dead  should  pass on to heaven from a luxurious hotel ! Convinced that the dead deserve every need to be comfortable, Mr Hisayoshi Teramura; in Yokohama suburb, has established a hotel, Lastel, purposely to offer hospitality treatment to the dead.
Funny enough, many fun seekers always stray in, asking for rooms, but Mr. Teramura’s place is neither a love nest nor a pit stop for tired travellers. The white-and-grey tiled building is a corpse hotel, its 18 deceased guests tucked up in refrigerated coffins.
“We tell them we only have cold rooms,” Mr Teramura quipped, when asked how his staff responded to unwary lovers looking for a room.
According to National Post, the daily rate at Lastel, as it is known, is ¥12,000 ($154.33). For that fee, bereaved families can check in their dead while they wait their turn in the queue for one of the city’s overworked crematoriums.
Death is a rare booming market in stagnant Japan and Mr. Teramura’s new venture is just one example of how businessmen are trying to tap it.
Mr. Teramura, 71, decided a decade ago to widen his business beyond graves to funerals and he opened Lastel last year.

Denzel Washington still applies the same principles in his acting career that he learned when he was a third grader in the Boys & Girls Club of America.
Now, the Oscar-winning actor along with director Ron Howard want to show how the club has impacted his life along with 20 other celebrities and entertainers, who were once members of the club.
Washington, the club's national spokesman, took part Wednesday in the debut of the club's campaign public service announcement called "Great Future Start Here." The PSA, which was directed by Howard, looks to draw awareness to the high school dropout rate, childhood obesity and youth violence.
"I want to be part of a solution," Washington said in a telephone interview from Washington, D.C., after the launch of the announcement. "I want to take the positive approach in regards to these kids. They inspire me. We can't focus on the problem. We have to focus on the solution."
Washington said when he was a member of the Mount Vernon, N.Y., club as a third grader, his track coach made a difference in his life just when he was trying out for a relay team.
"This new kid who joined the track team was faster than me, and I was worried about it," Washington said. "But my mentor basically told me that my natural ability would only take me so far without the fundamentals. ... Today, I still use those same lessons thanks to what I learned from my mentor at the club."
The video also features Jennifer Lopez, Shaquille O'Neal, Martin Sheen, Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mario Lopez, Ne-Yo, Lucille O'Neal, Ashanti, Gen. Wesley Clark, Kerry Washington, Shaun White, Misty Copeland, John Paul DeJoria, Smokey Robinson, C.C. Sabathia, Courtney Vance, Edward James Olmos, Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Cuba Gooding Jr.
The music for the spot includes Beyonce's single "I Was Here" from her latest album, "4."
Howard, who was never a member of the Boys & Girls Club, said he was compelled to support the club once he understood the impact of the organisation.
"At the Boys & Girls Club, there's no pressure of a parental point of view," Howard said. "There's not the pressure of grades. It's a nurturing environment where each kid or individual can count for something."

Labour Wants OBJ, IBB Arrested For Economic Crimes, Rally Cripples Capital

L-R: Ibrahim Babangida and Olusegun Obasanjo.
The Nigeria Labour Congress and other affiliate Trade Unions under the auspices of “Save Nigeria Rally” on Thursday embarked on their much publicized protest against the removal of subsidy on petroleum products in the Federal Capital city bringing practically all commercial activities within the metropolis to a halt.
NLC President,Comrade Abdulwaheed Omar, addressing members.
Members of the Unions started converging at the popular Berger roundabout at about 7 am and proceeded to the National Assembly through Zone 4 within the Wuse District. The protesters led by their leaders passed through the Wuse 2 district through Abia House in Maitama District before they were stopped by the heavy presence of security operatives.
The protesters walked the entire 15 kilometers from the starting point to the National Assembly chanting anti government songs, calling on the Federal Government to consider the plight of suffering Nigerians.
The protesters also kicked against on going attempts to emasculate the Nigerian people through constitutional amendment and claimed that powerful and the rich who have access to the corridors of power, prefer to tinker with the aspects of the constitution that suits them.
They claimed that the recent public hearing by the Senate Committee on Privatization confirmed the NLC’s insistence over the years that the scheme was a scam to fleece the country.
“It is not surprising that there have been desperate attempts to muzzle the Committee and kill the Senate report. We advise against such brazen acts. Those who committed crimes against the Nigerian people in the name of privatization must be brought to justice and ill gotten wealth recovered and returned as a common patrimony” declares the Labour Mobilizing Committee.

Forty percent of men visit Philippines for sex -US envoy

MANILA (AFP) – Forty percent of foreign men visiting the Philippines are sex tourists, the US ambassador on Manila said on Thursday in comments that were quickly disputed by the government.
US ambassador Harry Thomas told a forum of Filipino judges and officials that corrupt officials were involved in a very visible sex trade, and challenged the legal profession to eliminate the “scourge”.
“We know that 40 percent of foreign men who come to the Philippines, including from the US, come for sexual tourism. That is not something I’m proud of. That’s not something you should be proud of,” Thomas said.
He highlighted a high profile string of karaoke bars and clubs along Roxas Boulevard, one of Manila’s main roads on which the US embassy is also located, alleging they were infamous sex establishments.
“Corruption allows these notorious establishments to continue to operate. Local officials will look the other way or accept favours. These officials are doubly guilty,” he said without naming any specific officials.
Thomas praised the Philippines for boosting efforts recently against human trafficking, but stressed more had to be done and pledged US help.
“Any American caught engaged in any of these crimes or cybersex should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and we will assist (you),” Thomas said he told Justice Secretary Leila de Lima.
Prostitution is illegal in the Philippines, Asia’s Roman Catholic outpost, but the sex trade flourishes openly in many urban areas, including Manila.
Nevertheless, the government immediately sought to downplay Thomas’s remarks.
“Certainly that is something we would like to dispute. We are not sure where his statistics are coming from,” Tourism assistant secretary Domingo Enario told AFP.
Tourism department spokesman Benito Bengzon also emphasised that sex tourism was not part of the government’s marketing campaign.
The ambassador’s statements come amid Philippine government attempts to revitalise the country’s tourism industry, which for years has lagged behind other Asian countries.
The Philippines recorded an all-time high of 3.52 million visitors last year and the government is aiming for tourist arrivals of six million by 2016.

I Sold 5 Plots Of Land To Buy Cocaine —Trafficker

A 56-year old man has confessed that he sold five plots of his family land to buy cocaine with the hope that he will make more money in the drug trade, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said this morning.
Chiafor Emmanuel Ndubuisi
The suspect, Chiafor Emmanuel Ndubuisi, was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, at the weekend, by NDLEA officials with 97 wraps of cocaine concealed in his stomach, as he attempted to board a British Airways flight to London, the agency said.

“I am totally confused. I was deceived into the drug trade with a promise of making five times the money I invested. My intention was to start my business in a big way. Now, I have lost everything. Chairman of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, said that drug traffickers’ hope of making money will continue to be dashed like that of Chiafor.

Graduate Bandits On The Prowl

Graduate robbers after their arrest recently
A new class of armed robbers, made up of university and polytechnic graduates, emerges in the country
Tayo Adegbola’s family background has a solid look to it. His father, now dead, was a minister of the Baptist Church. His mother is a secondary school principal in Akure, Ondo State. But the 24-year-old Mechanical Engineering graduate of the University of Ilorin has chosen a path directly opposed to the sturdy morality associated with his parents’ callings. On 24 August, Adegbola was paraded by the Ondo State Police Command as the leader of an eight-man robbery gang with preference for car snatching. He and his gang members were arrested on 11 August.
His journey into the criminal world, he claimed, began early this year, when he was inducted by a friend he simply identified as Uche. His underworld colleagues, also paraded by the Police, are Vincent Agu, Monday Akam, Uche Nwainyinya, Silas Obiesie, Azuka Onyenweni, Izunna Ukwesi and Amaechi Chiekwe.
The gang’s mode of operation is a fairly sophisticated one. According to the 2010 Engineering graduate, the gang perfected the art of renting cars from car rental operators in either Lagos or Ibadan for between N40,000 and N50,000 for supposed official assignments in Akure. Adegbola did the renting himself. Once he takes a car out of a car rental’s garage, he said, he would phone his colleagues, who would wait at a strategic location to snatch it. “Then, I would come back to say that the vehicle had been snatched from me. After the success of the operation, I would just give my colleagues some money and immediately contact some car dealers who would buy the vehicles from me,” he said, adding that he sold unregistered cars for N700,000 each and registered ones for N500,000.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Sani Magaji, disclosed that cars recovered from the gang included a Nissan Primera, Audi A6, Honda CRV, two Honda Accord End of Discussion and a Honda Accord Bullet.
Before the arrest of Adegbola and his gang, one Bamidele Olawale Adeyemi, alias Wale Yahoo, who claimed to be a graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, was shot on 13 July at Legacy Hotel, Ojoo, Ibadan, by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS. He died the next day. For four years, Wale Yahoo ran rings around the police, evading a string of attempts to nab him. His death robbed the police of a rich bank of information about his colleagues who assisted him in terrorising residents of Oyo, Ogun and Lagos states.

Lagos murder: ‘I hacked my husband to death’

EMOTIONS ran high, yesterday, at the Isheri Divisional headquarters, Lagos, after the prime suspect in the gruesome murder, Thursday, of a Lagos based socialite and business man, Mr. Kazeem Ademoye, admitted before the police and family members that she actually hacked her husband of 13 years to death.
Mrs Ngozi Ademoye, a native of an unnamed village in Asaba, Delta State, was married to Kazeem Ademoye 13 years ago and the relationship was blessed with two girls. But she was arrested Saturday morning after her 15 year old son, Tunde Ademoye, who had before now, known the deceased to be his biological father gave a contrary version of the cause of death.
Mr. Kazeem Ademoye was reportedly murdered on Friday at about 4.00am by his wife but had earlier told sympathizers who thronged the 11, Ahirim Onuha Close, Magodo, that her husband died of heart attack. In another breath, she was said to have told other close friends and neighbours of her late husband that he was a cultist and that she woke up that fateful day to behold her husband in red robe and a tortoise dangling menacingly around his neck following which she ran to her room, grabbed a bottle of holy water and sprinkled some on him.
She reportedly added that it was the holy water that lifted and slammed him on the floor; causing his death. But at the police station, she reportedly confessed that her husband severely beat her up that early morning and in anger, she reached for a sharp cudgel and hit him hard twice on the head. However, the police and family members are yet to be convinced that the woman killed her husband all alone. They are questioning who helped her to clean up the blood and lift him from the floor to the bed.
The family spokesperson, Mr. Adesegun Agbaye Hakeem, first cousin to the deceased said there was more to what his late cousin’s widow said. He noted: “She has confessed before the Police and me that she killed my brother out of anger. She has even taken them to the penthouse where she hid the weapon she used in killing him. In Yoruba, there is nothing like cousin, I call Kazeem my younger brother because my mother was born after his dad; so I have always referred to him as my brother.

Is size an issue in love?

Mary has been having telephone conversation with Jason who lives in the States. Although she hasn’t met him in person, she knew she liked him. She has heard wonderful things about him through her best friend who just moved abroad.
They spoke for long hours and sometimes she sends her photographs to him via email. He didn’t send his photographs to her any day and this didn’t bother her.
This went on for about two years. Meanwhile Jason went on to propose marriage to her and of course she accepted knowing she was in love.
The engagement formality was arranged and he came home for it and the subsequent wedding, but the wedding was called off because Mary refused to do anything with Jason because of his size.
