Your numero uno blog (Surprisebaba.blogspot.com)  is 1 year old today 15th March 2012. It's just like yesterday that I published the first post titled 'I have joined the club' on 15th March 2011. The  second post titled 'Husbands for sale'   was posted the following day and was immediately followed by the third post titled 'Can you pass this test'. Since then,  I have published a lot of posts touching on virtually every aspects of human existence.

The readers and followers of this blog made it what it is today. In just a year, this blog has over 220,000 page views and it is still counting. Thanks to you all.. As a way of compensation, I am giving everybody what goes in dry, comes out wet and leave a lasting satisfaction (not what you think but a tea bag).  E-hugs and e-kisses to you ladies while you guys should chop knuckles.

Nigeria: Copter Crash kills new Police chief, 3 others

A helicopter belonging to Nigeria’s Special Task force has crashed in Jos, the Plateau state capital, northcentral Nigeria, killing all the four men on board, including the newly appointed Police Deputy Inspector General, Haruna John.

The helicopter crashed in a residential area, around Rukuba Road behind Jos Satellite Market as it embarked on it’s regular surveillance early Wednesday morning.

None of the four persons on board survived the crash as the helicopter burst into flames.

The National Emergency Management Agency(NEMA) has confirmed the incident.

The Special task force was set up to coordinate the security of the troubled state following killing of hundreds of people.

Police sources said Haruna John who was recently promoted from Commissioner of Police to Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG, was among the dead.

I Own Don Jazzy’s Label —D-Banj

Dapo Daniel Oyebanji a.k.a. D’banj, has disclosed that he owns Mo’ Hits record label and ace producer and hit maker Don Jazzy is his artiste.

The Kokomaster, as he is fondly called, said this in an interview on Ebony Magazine’s official website published on March 12, 2012.

D’banj, who claims he owns the record label, added that he was also responsible for signing of the label’s artistes which include, Dr. Sid, Wande Coal, Don Jazzy, D’Prince and his blood brother, K-Switch.

The pop star goes on to talk about his entrance into the US market and his signing with Kanye West’s label G.O.O.D. Music during the interview.

D’banj, apart from referring to Don Jazzy as ‘his artiste’, does not mention or credit the producer in any other part of the interview.

His claims during the interview, however, contradict the generally held view that D’banj and Don Jazzy co-own the label, with Don Jazzy acting as President while D’Banj is Vice President.

Rev. King’s Devotees Attack TB Joshua

The police in Ikotun division Lagos prevented a religious crisis after seven devotees of condemned Rev. King allegedly went to the home of Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua of Synagogue Church of All Nations at Egbe-Ikotun and verbally attacked him.

The seven devotees suspected to be members of the of Christian Praying Assembly, CPA, founded by the condemned Rev. King, were arrested and charged to Ejigbo Magistrates’ court Lagos State Southwest Nigeria, for allegedly attacking T. B. Joshua.

The suspects include Nwachukwu Ngoma, 50, Peace Chinwendu, 28, Peter Emodi, 20, Obuwase Wisdom, Ngozi Ikechukwu, 40, Chinyere Nwoke, 45, and Eze Chinyere, 35.

The suspects and others now at large were alleged to have pretended that they were preaching the gospel and stood in front of Prophet Joshua’s home and casting aspersion on the man of God.

Apart from Joshua, other men of God including Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners Chapel, Pastor Kumuyi of Deeper Life Bible Church and Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, were not spared by the devotees who called them thieves and fraudsters and rained curses on them.

Their action created religious tension in the area and the residents denounced their preaching and called the police.

‘How Couple Tortured Domestic Servant To Death’

A policeman, Inspector Kinanee Jacob, on Tuesday told an Ikeja High Court in Lagos how a 14-year old boy, Oliver Arakwe, was allegedly tortured to death by his employers, Elochukwu and Chiamaka Nnajiofor.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Jacob was testifying in the murder trial of Elochukwu (40) and Chiamaka (26) before Justice Lateefat Okunnu.

Jacob, who was being led in evidence by Ms. Olaide Eboda, Deputy Director, Directorate of Public Prosecution, said that the deceased was one of the three domestic servants of the Nnajiofors.

The witness said that Arakwe died on August 17, 2010 at the Eko General Hospital, Surulere, after he was allegedly tortured and beaten by Chiamaka for “misbehaving.”

He said: “The matter was transferred from Ago/Okota Police Station, Isolo to the Homicide Sect ion, State CID, Yaba.

“During our investigation, it was discovered that Chiamaka actually tortured the deceased.

“When we got to the crime scene, we discovered that he was kept in the toilet for two days.

“He was then brought out and asked to wash some clothes but he could not perform the task because he was very weak.”

Facebook: Female corps member in NDLEA’s net over drugs

Those with unknown long distance friends on Facebook may need to be wary as a female corps member is now in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over drug parcel sent by her London-based Facebook friend.

The lady had, at the weekend, received a telephone call from her London friend about the arrival of the parcel with instructions on whom to hand it to once she collected it.

Why I didn’t attend Ojukwu’s burial – Gowon

LAGOS—FORMER Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), Tuesday, explained his absence at the funeral rites of the late Biafran  warlord,  Dim Emeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, saying he already had commitments abroad on the dates of  the burial.

Speaking exclusively with  Vanguard at the  on-going Nigerian Maritime Exposition, NIMAREX, Gen. Gowon stated that as soldiers, ”it is only proper to give due respect and honour to our opponents”  but described the late Ikemba Nnewi as his opponent during the Nigerian civil war.

Gowon said he spoke with the family while Ojukwu was hospitalised and had wished him quick recovery. He also  stated that  because of his inability to attend the burial service, the family suggested he wrote a tribute on the programme of event,  a request he happily obliged  them.

He said: ” Unfortunately,   the dates of my friend’s burial coincided with the dates of some commitments I already had abroad, that is in America and U.K.

High-tension protest: Man climbs 250-metre mast

For four hours, a man, Mallam Musa Inuwa sat on a 250-metre high telecommunication mast vowing to remain there until his conditions of seeing either former vice president Atiku Abubakar or the Inspector General of Police was met.

The drama, which took place in the premises of the Federal High Court Abuja caused pandemonium, as court workers scampered for safety, fearing a suicide bomber was on a deadly mission.
Rumours started making the rounds in the city that members of the Boko Haram sect had invaded the complex of the Federal High Court.
The incident attracted government security agencies including the Fire Service, the National Emergency Agency (NEMA) and police to the scene.
The Police were represented by the Area Commander in charge of Maitama district of the FCT, Mr. Sunday Odukoya who led other personnel including Mr. Jimoh Moshood, the FCT Command spokesman.

The local proverb that any animal which escapes from a set trap in the bush will always run far from every bent stick, whether it is a trap or not, played out yesterday in Kaduna, when residents went into a frenzy and palpable panic over a ‘suspect bag”.  It turned out that the killer bag just contained sachets of packed water popularly called ‘pure water’.

But the jitter is not for nothing. Kaduna has fallen victim to the Boko Haram onslaught on several occasions resulting in huge casualty figures.

The tension and panic created by the ‘suspect’ was so strong and thick that it could almost be cut with a knife. It happened among residents of Sabon Gari in Tundun Wada area in the metropolis when a kit bag suspected to contain bomb was discovered at the residence of a former council chairman.

The incident occurred just as the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) condemned last Sunday’s bombing of St. Finbarr’s Catholic Church in Jos and called on Nigerians to unite and fight terrorism.

Fed up with life as a terrorist, a Boko Haram member, Mallam Sulaiman Isah, has decided to settle down to raise a family six months ago. But he regretted the decision yesterday. He relocated from Maiduguri, Borno State, the base of the Islamist sect to marry in Kaduna where he operated as a drycleaner in Ungwan Sanusi area of the metropolis until yesterday when in a commando style, he was captured from his residence.

As Isah was being led away, he was screaming, “yan, Boko Haram ne” meaning, They are Boko Haram members, ” even as the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) said all Nigerians must join hands to stop the sect.
Also on Sunday, barely few hours after the Islamist sect attacked St Finbarr’s Catholic Church, Rayfield, Jos, which claimed seven lives and 11 others in a reprisal by irate youths, the gunmen killed three Christians at Chugwi village, also in Plateau State same day even as 11 more bodies were recovered yesterday.

In yet another incident, Boko Haram, on Monday attacked a police station in Kano, injuring two officers on duty even as a sect member was disarmed and killed by policemen also in the metropolis.
Mallam Isah, a dry cleaner, who resides in Kwana Mai shai of Ungwa Sanusi in Kaduna South Local Government Area, fled from the sect in Maiduguri and relocated to Kaduna about six months ago.

Crisis Rocks Ibru’s Estate

Barely four months after the death of The Guardian Newspaper publisher, Alex Ibru, crisis has engulfed his estate as one of his companies, Onamo Investment Corporation, has filed a petition against Tourist Company of Nigeria, owners of Federal Palace Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The petition seeks to wind up the company over accumulated debt. When the matter was mentioned at the Federal High Court, Lagos this morning, a human rights lawyer, Dr. Tunji Braithwaite representing Onamo Investment Corporation, told the court that he received a letter written to the Chief Judge but the presiding judge, Justice Okechukwu Okeke said the letter was not written to the CJ but the Chief Registrar of the court.

Justice Okeke then ordered the registrar of the court to read the letter. In the letter written by elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, he appealed to the court to adjourn the matter to a long date for an amicable settlement of the matter.

Court frees woman from forced ‘marriage’

A  Grade ‘B’ Customary Court, sitting in Oshodi, Lagos, on Monday freed a 27-year-old woman, Rekiyat Bello, from four years of cohabitation with her estranged lover, Murphy.

Bello, who alleged that Murphy coerced her into the relationship with a spell, approached the court on February 8, to dissolve the union which produced a female child.

She had said, “Before we started our relationship, I knew he was a married man and because of this, I bluntly refused his overtures. I later found myself falling in love with him.

“My parents and relations were worried about my sudden change and they all raised the alarm that my consent to the relationship was not ordinary and that I must have been under a spell.

“My parents refused to give their consent to our proposed marriage. As a result of this, he refused to take responsibility for the upkeep of our daughter even up till now.”

Sex assault: Nigerian jailed for four years, faces deportation

A Nigerian, who allegedly carried out two sex attacks on women he met in a Cambridge nightclub has been jailed.

According to Cambridge First on Monday, Anthony Iyare, 29, attacked a woman in the toilets of the Fez Club in May, a year after sexually assaulting a woman he had met at the same club.

Iyare,  who used his widowed mother’s savings to study in Cambridge,  England will be deported after he was convicted of sexually assaulting two young women.

In the first incident in the early hours of May 20 2010, Iyare, of Walpole Road, Cambridge, and some of his friends went back to an address in Cambourne with the 21-year-old woman and her friend after pestering them in the club.

He sexually assaulted her after she fell asleep.

A year later, in the early hours of May 28, Iyare followed an 18-year-old woman into a toilet cubicle in the club before sexually assaulting her.

50 women, children massacred in Syria’s Homs

DAMASCUS (AFP) – Nearly 50 women and children were found with their throats cut or bearing stab wounds in Syria’s Homs, prompting hundreds of families to flee the restive city, the opposition and activists said on Monday.

Hadi Abdallah, a Syrian activist in the central city, told AFP the bodies of 26 children and 21 women were discovered in the Karm el-Zaytoun and Al-Adawiyeh neighbourhoods of the besieged central city.
